British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC)

Our mission is to promote and protect sporting shooting and the well-being of the countryside throughout the United Kingdom and overseas. We represent our members' interests by providing a voice for sporting shooting which includes wildfowling, game, and rough shooting, deer stalking, target shooting and air gunning, pigeon shooting and pest control, gun dogs, promoting practical habitat conservation, training and the setting of standards and undertaking appropriate research.

Throughout the UK support, help and guidance to members is provided by full-time regional directors centred on four English regions - the North, East and South East, South and South West, and Midlands - and there are three national centres - Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland.

It has its National headquarters at Marford Mill, Rossett near Wrexham It is very much a full-time and professionally administered operation. Under the chief executive it has specialist teams covering:

• firearms
• game shooting and game-keeping
• gundogs
• research
• conservation and land management
• training and standards

• deer management
• rural land management
• wildfowling
• media and communications

BASC is a national representative body for sporting shooting. We have five strategic objectives:

·         High standards

BASC Wales Country Officer stated ‘‘ we are pleased to be advising and assisting the organisers of the North Wales Country Fair at the Rhiwlas Estate in Bala and we are fully supportive of the committee behind the event. The BASC Wales team will be on hand for both days of the event to answer any questions that you may have and we will also be providing the main arena gundog display.

We will also be providing gundog scurries which run in conjunction with the BASC Chudleys Scurry League. This new and unique competition  provides the chance to win great prizes.

Our BASC Sporting Shotgun School will also be present. This is designed to offer an opportunity for those who already shoot and want some advice on their shooting , or those who feel they would like to try for the first time to do so under expert tuition and instruction from one of our qualified coaches.’’

All sections are run against the clock and can be entered as many times as you wish, with prizes on the day down to third place in every section.

BASC Sporting Shotgun Shooting School & BASC Safe Shot

WOULD YOU BENEFIT FROM SOME EXPERT TUITION?

The BASC Sporting Shotgun School is designed to offer an opportunity for those who either already shoot, or those who feel they would like to try, to take advantage of some expert tuition and instruction. Have a coaching session from a qualified coach, covering safety, correct stance, gun fit and gun mount, and how to hit a moving target. The fee includes the cost of cartridges, clay targets, hearing and eye protection and, if necessary, the loan of a shotgun. If you have your own shotgun with you and are experiencing problems with gun fit then please come along to the coaching school and have a chat with our coaches.

Safe Shot is a BASC award that recognises your knowledge of shotgun safety and your safe gun handling. It shows others that you are safe using a shotgun. Safe Shot is not a competence test. To be awarded the Safe Shot badge you need to successfully complete three sections. A short multiple choice question paper on safety. A practical empty gun handling test, including getting over an obstacle. In a shooting cage prove that you can load and fire the gun safely at a clay target.
